Astrological Time Part IV

ree

For the past three weeks, I've researched and written about time: the nature and science of time, Chronos and Kairos time, managing and organizing time.  This week’s blog post is about astrological time.  What is ‘astrological time’?

According to Michael Falk in the Journal of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, “The classical planets are Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, the Sun, Venus, Mercury and the Moon, and they take rulership over the hours in this sequence. [astrological time] The sequence is from slowest- to fastest-moving as the planets appear in the night sky, and so is from furthest to nearest in the planetary spheres model. The Ptolemaic system of planetary spheres asserts that the order of the heavenly bodies, from the farthest to the closest to the Earth is: Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon (or, objectively, the planets are ordered from slowest to fastest moving as they appear in the night sky – note however that the sun, Venus, and Mercury all advance by 360° per year, on average)…In astrological theory, not only the days of the week, but the hours of the day are dominated by the seven luminaries. If the first hour of a day is dominated by Saturn, then the second hour is dominated by Jupiter, the third by Mars, and so on with the Sun, Venus, Mercury, and the moon, so that the sequence of planets repeats every seven hours. Therefore, the twenty-fifth hour, which is the first hour of the following day, is dominated by the Sun; the forty-ninth hour, which is the first hour of the next day, by the Moon. Thus, if a day is labelled by the planet which dominates its first hour, then Saturn's day is followed by the Sun's day, which is followed by the Moon's day, and so forth” (Falk).

Even if you don’t follow astrology, you can see that astrological time follows the observable laws of nature.  Consider the relationship between the Moon and the movement of tides on Earth. An astrological time clock, then, is a tool used in astrology to track the positions of celestial bodies and their influence on human affairs over time. It typically represents the twelve zodiac signs and their corresponding houses, illustrating how planetary movements affect various aspects of life. As you may know, zodiac signs are arranged in 30-degree sections that are crossed by the Sun’s 360-degree path as viewed from Earth. There are 12 zodiac signs.  Astrological Houses represent various aspects of life according to the time and location rather than by date.  There are 12 Houses:(1) self/physical body/appearance, (2) possessions/money/self-worth/value, (3) communications/early schooling/siblings, (4) home/family/ancestral patterns, (5) romance/play/creativity, (6) daily routines/work/health, (7) committed partnerships, (8)merging/intimacy/death/transformation, (9) higher learning/spirituality, (10) career/public status/legacy, (11) friendships/hopes/dreams/community, (12) endings/the unconscious/things beyond the physical plane.

You can find out your astrological signs by having your natal chart prepared by an astrologer or by online sources.  What you will need for the most complete view of your astrological time are the following: your exact birth date, your exact birth time, the precise place of your birth.  For most people, they can locate this info on their birth certificate.  If you cannot get the exact birth time, a skilled astrologer can estimate.  Your natal chart will show you the where the planets were when you wrestled born, your Sun sign, your Rising sign, and your Moon sign.  For more information and to get your natal chart prepared for free, check out https://www.astrology.com/us/home.aspx .  Alternatively, the TimePassages app provides handy information on astrological time and you can get your natal chart there too.  Of course, consulting with a professional astrologer will give you the best picture of your planetary/celestial influences.

From ancient peoples who observed the patterns of the planets and how they influence life on Earth to today, we are all involved in astrological time. Do you observe astrological time?  Please share your stories, thoughts, insights, and suggestions by either commenting below this post if you are reading this on social media, or, if you are reading this through your email subscription, please share, by emailing me, at reimaginelife22@gmail.com.
