Metaphysical Moments Part II

ree

“There is no need for temples, no need for complicated philosophies.  My brain and my heart are my temples; my philosophy is kindness” (The Dalai Lama).

During Part I of looking at Metaphysics, I shared the definition of ‘Metaphysics’, of what it is and of what it is not. This week’s post continues highlighting Metaphysical aspects by examining Metaphysical Universal Principles.  Some claim there are 7 Universal Laws; others claim there are 12 or 33.  I lean toward minimalism and making things simpler.  Too many ‘laws’ and ‘rules’ can turn off interest and curiosity.  In addition, Metaphysicians question reality to discover for themselves what is true, so labeling aspects as ‘laws’ and ‘rules’ may interfere with individual inquiry.  Still, some aspects yield common experience. When I refer to these elements, I downplay the restrictive and exoteric (any doctrine that comes from outside oneself and that is told to us by others) words, ‘laws’ and ‘rules’; I favor thinking of these elements as Universal Principles instead.

According to Tania Kotsos, “There are…Universal Laws or Principles by which everyone and everything in the Universe is governed…While you may have heard of…Universal Laws, you will find that they all fall under the umbrella of …Hermetic Principles that maintain the perfect harmony and order of the Universe.

Ancient mystical, esoteric and secret teachings dating back more than 5,000 years from Ancient Egypt to Ancient Greece, all have as a common thread these…Hermetic Laws of the Universe. Once you understand, apply and align yourself with these Universal Laws, you will experience transformation in every area of your life beyond what you have ever dared to imagine. The governing Laws seek neither to punish nor reward you. They are impersonal, operating automatically along unconscious lines without your conscious participation” (https://www.mind-your-reality.com/seven_universal_laws.html).

Most people have heard of the Universal Principle of Attraction; that’s simply the start of understanding Metaphysical Principles.  “Many people are familiar with the ‘Law of Attraction’ now due to the popularity of the book and movie The Secret. Unfortunately the laws of the universe are a bit more complicated than all that” (https://discover.hubpages.com/religion-philosophy/12_universal_laws). Here are the Metaphysical Principles that are central to life:

  • Universal Principle of Attraction/Vibration:  Like vibration attracts like vibration.  “According to this [Principle], you attract into your life those things, circumstances and conditions that correspond with the nature of your dominant thoughts, beliefs and feelings, both conscious and subconscious” (https://www.mind-your-reality.com/what-is-the-law-of-attraction.html). Every thought we think is creating our future; we attract to us what we think about, speak about, read about, participate in, listen to, watch.  If we think fearful, angry, and other negative thoughts, listen to music with negative lyrics, play violent video games, watch the news and violent /negative television shows and movies, talk about negative / low vibrational aspects of life, we will attract more of the same to us.  Conversely, if we think peaceful thoughts, engage in positive / high vibrational speaking, read/watch/participate in positivity, we will attract more of the same to us.  We often use the term, ‘vibe.’  For example, if I walk into a room and I feel uncomfortable, I might say the room has an odd vibe. On some level, we all can intuitively feel the energies from other people, animals, places, and objects. This principle reminds us to ally our energies with the energies we wish to attract. We sense energetic vibrations through our emotions and our thoughts. Then, we have a choice how to redirect the energies that don’t align with the energies we desire.  “A good lesson here is learn to let go! If something irritates you – bless it for teaching you a lesson in spiritual wisdom and then send it packing…Not fully recognizing this law is also why the law of attraction fails miserably for many people. You must truly act as if you are already what you WANT to be – in order to align your energy with that and help it manifest” (https://discover.hubpages.com/religion-philosophy/12_universal_laws).

  •  Universal Principle of Divine Oneness: Everything in the universe is interconnected. All organisms, inanimate objects, non-living entities (such as plastics or metals), environmental components (such as temperature and sunlight), artificial constructions (such as buildings and bridges), and chemical compounds (such as sugar or salt) are part of a single, unifying whole.  Everything shares a common essence and comes from a common Source/Goddess/God/Higher Power/Pure Consciousness. When we see and acknowledge divine oneness, we can experience harmony and peace in our relationships with people and things.  This principle highlights the idea that actions affecting one part of the whole impact the entire system. “Ever noticed how a smile from a stranger can brighten your day? That’s the [Principle] of Divine Oneness in action. The idea that we’re all part of the same universe. Every tree, animal, and person is connected in a deep, invisible way. Think about a spider web[:] if you touch one part, the whole web vibrates. That’s how our universe works. When I do something, it affects everything else, even in small ways. It’s like throwing a pebble in a pond and watching the ripples spread. Here’s a simple example: When I choose to be kind, that kindness doesn’t just stop with the person I helped. They might feel happier and help someone else. And so it goes on, spreading like ripples. This connection isn’t just about people. It’s about everything – the air we breathe, the ground we walk on, and the stars we gaze at. It’s a reminder that we’re not alone. We’re part of a vast, living universe” (https://innergrowthcenter.com/law-of-divine-oneness/).

  •  Universal Principle of Correlation: The Hermetic text, the Emerald Tablet, contains the phrase, “As above so below.” This phrase, “…is actually a part of a longer phrase, which reads ‘As above, so below; as below, so above.’ It means that there is a distinct correspondence [correlation] between what goes on in the physical realm, and what occurs in the metaphysical realms. Or, to put it another way, it means that what happens in the heavens [or the spiritual, non-physical], is mirrored down here on earth. That the feelings and actions of gods and angels [or Pure Consciousness/Higher Power/ Source] have a corresponding impact on human beings in the tangible world of planet earth” (https://www.thehistoryofenglish.com/as-above-so-below).  This principle expands the Principle of Oneness.  Consider the following examples of this principle.  First, “Everything’s going wrong today. Mercury’s in retrograde. You know what they say, ‘as above so below’” (https://www.thehistoryofenglish.com/as-above-so-below). Then, from The Message Bible,”Our Father in heaven, Reveal who you are. Set the world right; Do what’s best— as above, so below” (https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew 6:5-13&version=MSG).  Whatever happens in the spiritual arena happens on the earthly plane; whatever happens on the earthly plane happens in the spiritual arena.

  •  Universal Principle of Perpetual Transmutation of Energy: I know this is a long name; still, the principle is easy to understand.  To ’transmute’ means to alter, modify, change, transform.  While there are lots of examples from science, nuclear reactions, fission, a more everyday example may be helpful. Consider water.  It can transmute into steam, clouds, rain, snow, or an ice cube (https://www.themodernmanifestation.com/post/law-of-perpetual-transmutation-of-energy).  “You cannot get rid of the energy that is water; you can only change (transmute) its form.  [This principle means that energy] constantly evolves, moves, and transforms, and it is always exists (even when you can’t see it)” (https://www.themodernmanifestation.com/post/law-of-perpetual-transmutation-of-energy).   In the Metaphysical, when we change our thoughts, we change what we are manifesting.  If I am attending a family holiday lunch and that one cousin is loud about his political views and seems to bait me into a debate, I can focus my thoughts on transmuting the energy he is likely sending my way into something positive rather than negative.

  •  Universal Principle of Cause and Effect: This is related to Newton’s Third Law of Motion: : “ For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.”  “If you move your hand through the air, you are causing molecules and the space around your hand to respond. Mindset coach, Are Brown, points out, “If you turn left instead of right, you will have a different experience. If you apply for a job, you are giving yourself an opportunity to be considered. Every single thing we do causes an effect. Our actions…are creating causes that show up as our reality; [that’s] the effect these causes have on our lives. Actions lead to results and for every action, there is a reaction.  This law is demonstrated beautifully by the Butterfly Effect in chaos theory. This is the idea that the flap of a butterfly's wings could have universal ramifications on the reality experienced millions of years later via the chain of events this sets off. If ANY cause was changed in the past, we could be living in a VERY different reality. In other words, we live in a highly complex system where pure chance cannot exist.  The actions you take now are creating a future effect on your life. The beautiful thing about this law is that it emphasizes the amount of control we can assume over our lives—the ability to recreate our reality. What you sow, you shall reap. To make significant change in your life, think through what actions you could take to set yourself up for success. What does significant change look like and what steps could help you get there?  The [Principle] of Cause and Effect requires that we take ownership over our lives—the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of it. Thankfully, we have the power to create more of the good”(https://www.themodernmanifestation.com/post/law-of-cause-and-effect).

  • Universal Principle of Abundance: ‘Abundance’ here is not only referring to money.  It’s a mindset that knows there is a world of abundance: one person’s success doesn’t diminish the capacity for others to experience success.  There is not a limited supply.  Abundance can mean money, opportunities, positive experiences, individual and shared resources, and satisfying relationships.  When we invest in our personal growth and development, we enhance our capacity for abundance.  When we share our resources and knowledge, we create a cycle of giving and receiving. “Abundance is your natural state. Noticing the abundance you already have in your life enables you to receive more. The opposite is also true. By only noticing what you don’t have, you attract more scarcity. If you believe that you have to struggle to make money, then the way you’ll receive money is by struggling to generate it. Yet if you truly believe that abundance is your natural state, your experiences will naturally lead to this. Shift your beliefs toward abundance, and expect to experience ease and flow” (https://www.themindfulword.org/universal-laws-financial-prosperity/).

  • Universal Principle of Time : This moment is all we have.  Even if we engage another timeline in our present moment, that moment is all we have. This moment is what it is, not ‘good’ or ‘bad’- it simply is.  Not thinking back on your past or thinking forward into your future acknowledges time as being here now at this moment.  To read more about time, check out my blog six-part series on time starting with https://www.reimaginelifecoach.com/post/does-anybody-really-know-what-time-it-is-part-i .

While these principles may appear to be ‘pie in the sky’ - that colorful phrase that means a longing for something you want, even if it’s unlikely, unrealistic.  It expresses skepticism or pessimism about the possibility of attaining something.  From personal experience, I have seen each principle work when I apply them to various situations in my life.  It’s taken decades to let go of my limiting beliefs, looking back in my past, focusing on the future, my reactions, and my responses.  Yes, I slip up sometimes, and when I do, my self-talk goes crazy with doubts.  When that happens, I transmute negative self talk and thoughts and apply these principles again.

Do you apply these Metaphysical Principles to your life?  When you do, what’s the result? When you don't, what's the result?
