To everyone reading this post, I am asking are you will participate in an interview for the book I’m writing? The book is for people who have deconstructed traditional religion or who are in the process of deconstructing and are asking themselves, “So, what’s next?” Not everyone who deconstructs their religion becomes an agnostic or an atheist; many people who have deconstructed resonate with the phrase, ‘spiritual, not religious.’ The ‘what’s next’ may be redefining, reimagining, reconstructing a spiritual life without the burden of religious dogma and doctrine.
If you are willing to participate, I invite you to answer the following interview questions and send your answers to me at reimaginelife22@gmail.com by 3/31/26. Thank you for engaging in this research. Your personal information, including your name and your contact info, will not be in the book.
Interview Questions
What is your age? General area where you live? (Please do not share details on your address.) Cultural/ethnic background? Gender you identify with? [For example: 37 yo, deep south USA, white European descent, Cis male]
If you regularly participated in a traditional religion, did you, yourself, choose the religion or was it one that your family or friends associated with (“chosen” for you)?
If you ‘deconstructed’ from a traditional religion, why did you take that journey?
If you deconstructed from a traditional religion, what aspects of religious beliefs did you eliminate from your life, what aspects of spiritual beliefs did you keep in your life, and what spiritual aspects did you add to your life?
If you transformed or transmuted religious dogma / doctrine into spirituality without an organized religion, what has been the outcome for you? In other words, if you dropped traditional religion and maintain your own spirituality, did your relationships with others change? How? Did you experience ‘push back’ - people wanting you to change? How?
Do you think/feel people can be both religious and spiritual? Why? How?
What does the phrase, ‘Spiritual, not religious’ mean to you?
Do you consider yourself a spiritual person? If so, what spiritual practices do you consistently engage in?
If you plan to participate in this interview, please complete the questions and return your answers to me at reimainelife22@gmail.com by Tuesday, 31 March 2026. Thank you.
