Getting High (Vibe)



In the 1960s and 70s when I was growing up, getting a high vibe and being high meant something quite different from what’s referred to today as achieving a high vibe.  As you know from physics class, everything vibrates even though our eyes cannot always see the vibrations. Bernie Hobbs of ABC Science explains it this way. “[W]hen your definition of vibration is… broad, you start seeing it everywhere. And [you may] start calling it by its more sciencey sounding name — oscillation. And you'll be referring to how often (how many times per second) it undergoes that change — its frequency. Then just like a physicist you'll be seeing vibrations — or oscillations — in things like: a swing going from side to side, waves at the beach, electrons moving up and down in a radio antenna, or side to side in an alternating current, the constantly reversing electric and magnetic fields of electromagnetic waves. That's a pretty eclectic looking list, but it's barely scratched the surface of things that vibrate. Everything in the universe can and does vibrate, and they're all doing it for the same reason: to store energy by switching it between different forms” (https://www.abc.net.au/science/articles/2014/05/21/4008925.htm). When someone refers to something as low vibration and other things as high vibration, outside of the purely scientific meaning, what are they referring to?


In the metaphysical sense of the word, ‘vibration,’ it is relevant to the frequency and energy levels of thoughts, emotions, and actions.  High vibrational frequencies are related to positive, uplifting thoughts and emotions such as peace, love, joy, gratitude.  Low vibrational frequencies are connected to negative, tyrannized thoughts and emotions such as fear, anger, revenge, sadness. “Many believe that higher vibrations connect individuals to spiritual realms and deeper consciousness.Just like we have different dimensions in this Universe, we also have different dimensional states of consciousness. These dimensions available to us on Earth are referred to as  3D, 4D and 5D.These dimensions are not actual places but rather they are states of consciousness. Here on Earth, we are all living life in either 3D, 4D, 5D or a combination of all three. In fact, it is most likely that majority of people on Earth are moving back and forth across two or three of these dimensional states of consciousness depending on where they are in their lives. Even though we are all living on the same planet and are surrounded by the same world, our perception of it will be different depending on which state of consciousness we are choosing to see things at. Those perceiving things from a 3D state are going to walk through life much differently to someone perceiving things from a 5D state” (https://foreverconscious.com/understanding-3-states-consciousness-3d-4d-5d).


If you were to guess what state of consciousness most of the population of the United States, for example, is currently living in in 2025, what would you guess?  Yes, it’s the lowest vibrational frequency: 3D. Here are some of the markers for living in 3D:

  • “You feel ‘stuck’ or stranded in life, not knowing what to do next.

  • You [are apathetic] or [have] an uncaring attitude toward others.

  • You are overly cynical, skeptical, argumentative, and complain a lot” (https://lonerwolf.com/low-or-high-vibration-signs/).

  • “Life feels like ‘the survival of the fittest’ and you are identified by the way you look, the job you have, the car you drive…

  • Things are perceived as being ‘good’ or ‘bad’ and life is a competition.  There is not enough for everyone and some people have to miss out.  Fulfillment is fond in making money and social status.

  • Your thoughts have no power over your reality.

  • In a 3D state, there is no desire to go within or to look at things from a deeper stand point.  Life is played out by skimming the surface.  There is no desire to dig deep or to understand the deeper meaning behind things” (https://foreverconscious.com/understanding-3-states-consciousness-3d-4d-5d).

  • You are often angry, feel revengeful, blame others, are not compassionate and empathetic, feel fearful.


What are some markers you are living in a high vibrational frequency or in 5D?

  • “ You are self-aware…you are conscious of what you are saying, doing, thinking, and feeling, as well as the effect this has on others.

  • You are empathetic towards others’ needs and you make a habit of seeing through the eyes of other people.

  • You are emotionally balanced.

  • You have a great sense of humor towards life and don’t take yourself too seriously.

  • You regularly feel gratitude for what you have in life.

  • Smiling and laughing comes easily to you.

  • You are self-disciplines.

  • You often experience synchronicity [term originated from Dr. Carl Jung and it refers to meaningful coincidences that mysteriously occur in your life].

  • You live in the present, [not in] the past or future.

  • You are highly intuitive.

  • Patience comes easily to you.

  • Opportunities and new doors spontaneously appear to you.

  • You are open to many difference types of people ideas beliefs, and experiences.

  • Other people easily open up to you.

  • You often find yourself in the role of counselor, peacemaker, teacher.

  • You… keep your life clutter-free.

  • You don’t feel the need to argue or compete with others - let them win and feel right; it’s ok.

  • You feel as though you have found your calling in life.

  • You feel confident in yourself and your abilities” (https://lonerwolf.com/low-or-high-vibration-signs/).


Here’s an easy way to know if you’re vibrating at a high or a low frequency.  Your body often lets you know.  How do you physically feel?  If you’re feeling lit, invigorated, lucid, clear, flourishing, healthy, having compassion and empathy for others, thriving, light even in the midst of chaos/turbulent times, you are likely vibrating in high frequency.  On the other hand, if you’re feeling depressed, repressed, oppressed, beset with worry and fear, heavy, angry, stagnant, worried, you are likely vibrating in low frequency.


The vibrational frequency at which you are usually living has a significant impact on your well-being. Higher vibrations encourage effective mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health, and help you feel both light and energetic. In addition, higher vibrations attract more positive people and events in your life. When you participate in practices such as meditation/prayer, gratitude, spending time in nature and with positive people, staying open to differing opinions/lifestyles/perspectives, thinking through something rather than reacting, listening to quiet/relaxing music, you are raising your vibrations. Lower vibrations can promote stress, feeling drained, feeling a heaviness in life, inviting illnesses in the body, feeding emotional and mental distress, encouraging spiritual stagnation or dogmatic attacks. Also, they attract negative people and events into your life. When you participate in negative self-talk, toxic relationships, gossiping , unhealthy habits such as viewing violent TV/the news/movies/games, listening to angry music, experiencing harsh/authoritarian policies and approaches to life, you are lowering your vibrations.


Attempting higher vibrations can be part of a path to personal development, satisfaction, and happiness in life.
